Me, Shyam Benegal and Glenlivet
I know there is at least one post pending about the end of my sabbatical but this one is really fresh, like 10 mins ago. So that one will have to wait.
Warning: This will read terribly like a fanboy post!
Today I met Shyam Benegal. We had drinks together, well, almost. Better still, I had Glenlivet whisky and so did he!
I was at the book launch of Amitav Ghosh's River of Smoke which was sponsored by Glenlivet. So this is what happened.
Shyam (yeah, yeah!) and I are standing at the bar where Glenlivet is being dispensed. He remarked that on this day there was no chance that on could even get in edgeways to the counter given that Glenlivet is being handed out free. He was behind me!
And I did what any fanboy should do. I told him that I was in no hurry to get to my whisky and that I see less of him than of Glenlivet! Come on - I have met him once and I have had Glenlivet several times! So he could go ahead and have his whisky ahead of me, especially since he was being the gracious husband and getting his wife a drink.
After that surreal moment or should I say real moment, I was in a different world altogether.
Thanks to Glenlivet whisky ;) Whoever thought that a single malt could create such a memory! Woo hoo!
Of course, there is tonnes to write about Amitav Ghosh and the book, but this post was about me!
