HT to Runner's World.

"...try busting your ass two or three times a day, seven days a week. Try dropping your day job and devoting your life to running..."
This is eerie. It is almost like they were speaking to me. Now if only I could go back 20 years and lose 20 pounds!

but why should kenyans be heroes to anyone who has other tickets to a modestly prosperous life?
i like the story of doug kurtis instead -systems analyst at ford and one with the most sub 2:20 runs in one's career.fulltime job,but a great runner because he gets in his 2-3hours of running per day plus his dayjob.now that is gut busting.
Dsylexic,
The reason I admire the Kenyans is because most people assume that Kenyans come naturally equipped as runners. They don't. And it is much tougher to make it as a runner in Kenyan than say in the US/Europe with even lower timings, due to the level of competition.
And Doug Kurtis' story is commendable. I can't compare him to the Kenyans - it will be unfair to both. Kurtis was understated by choice. The story of people under desperate circumstances inspires me more - doesn't make one story better than the other. My current favourite remains that of Josphat Menjo
