the 37% rule is useless since the problem is not about what percent to stop at, but what sample size to start with. should you look at 5 women or 6378?
ah, the engineer - mba - consultant latches onto the question of sample size. but my friend, as any good manager will tell you, there will never be enough data or we are not needed ;)
Interesting theory. I am battling with a similar problem where I have to buy a house and I have a weighted sum model with variables such as distance from work, cost, floor plan, location, house features and age of the house.
I have one issue with the 37% problem model. All the houses in the market can be sold anytime. Thus, it is possible that I come across the best house in the pool very early in my search and it is sold by the time I cover the 37%. This applies to the dating scene as well.
